Bloomsburg Advances to NCAA Field Hockey Championship Game

LOCK HAVEN—Erin McConnell's (Danville/Danville)goal with 2:23 remaining lifted the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 2-1 win over Lock Haven University Friday night in the semi-finals of the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championships. Bloomsburg, 20-0, will face Bentley College, a 1-0 winner over Bryant College, for the national title on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Huskies will be aiming for their 10th NCAA Field Hockey championship.

Bloomsburg jumped in front 1-0 when PSAC Field Hockey Athlete of the Year Sheila Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown) scored off a Shanna Fritz (Benton/Benton) assist 14:34 into the game. The goal was the 12th of the year for Zilinski and the 10th assist of the year for Fritz.

Lock Haven tied the game just 3:06 into the second half when Kellie Kulina scored off a Courtney Hughes assist.

McConnell then scored the game-winner for the Huskies at the 67:37 mark to send the Huskies to the title game. The win was also the third for the Huskies over Lock Haven in as many weeks. Bloomsburg beat Lock Haven in the final game of the regular season, in the PSAC championship game and now the NCAA semi-finals.

Bloomsburg last won the Division II championship in 1999 when it beat Bentley College, 2-0, at Bloomsburg.
