Field Hockey Drops to Second in National Poll
BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University field hockey team dropped to second according to the latest 2002 STX/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll, despite remaining undefeated.
The Huskies, 5-0, received eight of 14 first place votes, but were edged by PSAC opponent Shippensburg for first place by one point (130 to 129). The Huskies most recent win came over Philadelphia University, 5-1 on Saturday, September 14. With the win, Bloomsburg has now won 14 straight games dating back to last season.
Nikki Hartranft (Oley/Oley Valley) leads the Huskies in scoring with five goals and Shanna Fritz (Benton/Benton) has four goals. Sheila Zilinski (Barto/Boyerstown) and Marie Zorzie (Mountaintop/Crestwood) both lead the team with three assists apiece.
Bloomsburg will play at East Stroudsburg Wednesday, September 18 at 4 p.m.
