BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University field hockey team advanced to the championship of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference with a 2-1 win over East Stroudsburg Tuesday afternoon.

The Huskies now advance to the PSAC title game this Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bloomsburg against either Lock Haven or Shippensburg,

Bloomsburg held control of the game for the opening 20 minutes getting several good scoring opportunities. East Stroudsburg goalie Kelly Wagner made a few saves before Shanna Frtiz (Benton/Benton) took the ball inside the cirle and beat Wagner with a shot to the right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead 12 minutes into the game. The goal was setup by good stick work from Steph Beck (Orefield/Parkland) who brought the ball downfield and into the scoring area.

The Huskies continued to put pressure on the Warriors' defense and got their second goal of the game at the19:20 mark when senior Kerri Beckhorn (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) took the ball off a penalty corner and shot it past Wagner.

East Stroudsburg began to turn play around after the second Huskies' goal and kept the ball in the Bloomsburg end. That resulted in a goal for Mandy Sturm off an assist from Sara Gorman at the 24:08 mark. The goal came as the result of a corner play and a shot that bounced off the cage and near the stick of Gorman who fed Sturm for the goal.

In the second half the Huskies opened play with five corners in the first 10 minutes of play, but could not get any shots to go in. East Stroudsburg then put the pressure on the Huskies and had four corners in a span of six minutes, but Bloomsburg's defense led by Marci Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown), Alison Poff (Dallastown/Dallastown Area) and Julie Orner (Oxford/Oxford) kept the Warriors in check.

With the win the Huskies improve to 18-0 for the season, while the Warriors end their season at 12-8.
