Bloomsburg University Field Hockey Back on Top

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University jumped back to first place in the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II national poll after spending two weeks at the second spot.

Bloomsburg, 8-0, 3-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), received all 15 first place votes to rank them PSAC rival Shippensburg, 9-1, who was in first place the previous two weeks.

The Huskies most recent win came off an 8-2 conference win over Mansfield University. Bloomsburg has now won 17 straight games dating back to last season.

Leading the Huskies in goals and assists is junior Shanna Fritz (Benton/Benton) with seven and six, respectively for 20 points. Juniors Nikki Hartranft (Oley/Oley Valley) and Sheila Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown) also have seven goals and are tied for second on the team with 17 points. Goalie Trish Leitzel (Richfield/Middleburg), 8-0, has a goals against average of 0.38 and has recorded 22 saves.

Bloomsburg will host number two Shippensburg Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
