Bloomsburg Field Hockey Remains Number One in Division II

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University field hockey team stayed in the number one spot of the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II national poll. It's the second consecutive week in first place for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg, 11-0, 4-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), received 15 first place votes to rank them above PSAC rivals Lock Haven and Shippensburg.

The Huskies defeated then-number two Shippensburg last week in an exciting 4-3, double overtime win, and then picked up two more wins this past weekend against UMass-Lowell and Assumption College.

Leading the Huskies in goals and assists is junior Shanna Fritz (Benton/Benton) with nine and six, respectively for 24 points. Juniors Nikki Hartranft (Oley/Oley Valley) and Sheila Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown) are tied for second on the team with 21 points, Hartranft with nine goals and three assists and Zilinski with eight goals and five assists. Goalie Trish Leitzel (Richfield/Middleburg), 11-0, has a goals against average of 0.55 and has recorded 36 saves.

Bloomsburg plays next at Millersville on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
