Notes: In a battle of the top two teams in Division II, Bloomsburg edged Shippensburg, 4-3 in double overtime.
The number one-ranked Huskies defeated the second-ranked Lady Raiders in an intense contest in
which  Bloomsburg never trailed. Niki Hartranft (Oley/Oley Valley)
got the Huskies on the board first with a goal just minutes into the game. After a Shippensburg
equalizer, Steph Beck (Orefield/Parkland) struck back with an assist from Keri Beckhorn
(Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) to make the score 2-1 in favor of Bloomsburg. After the Lady Raiders
made it a 2-2 game, Shanna Fritz (Benton/Benton) scored an athletic goal in which she shot the ball
while falling to the ground, to make the score 3-2 in favor of Bloomsburg, with less than two mintues to
go in the first half. Shippensburg scored the tying goal with 26 minutes to play in regulation. All three
Lady Raiders' goals came via a penalty corner shot. The Huskies had multiple scoring opportunities
in the final three minutes of regulation, but could not get a shot past the Shippensburg goaltender.
Overtime was an up-tempo affair with both squads getting numerous scoring chances and the goalies
making one big save after another. With 4:35 left in the second overtime period, Fritz corralled a loose
ball in front of the net, avoided heavy traffic and beat the goaltender for the winning score. Bloomsburg
goalie Trish Leitzel (Richfield/Middleburg) was strong in net, making nine saves, while challenging many
other shots and wiping out numerous Shippensburg scoring opportunities in crunch time.
The win is the 18th straight for the Huskies, dating back to last season.
