Zilinski Named Field Hockey Representative for Honda Awards ProgramBLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University field hockey standout Sheila Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown) has been named the field hockey representative for the 2002-2003 Division II Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year program sponsored by Honda. The program, in its 28th year, recognizes the top woman collegiate athlete in each of 12 sports. In addition, the program honors the top women collegiate athletes representing Division II and Division III schools and the recipient of the Honda Inspiration Award. As part of the selection, the Honda Awards Program will also donate $1,000 to the women's athletic fund at Bloomsburg. Zilinski, a junior, was a first team All-American this year as well as the women's field hockey.com Division II Player of the Year and the PSAC Field Hockey Athlete of the Year. She ended the season tied for the team high in goals with 14 and was second in assists with eight. She showed why she was named first team All-PSAC after she scored two goals in the NCAA title game and one in the NCAA semi-finals. For her play in the NCAA tournament, Zilinski was named to the All-Tournament team. During the year Zilinski had her best game of the year in a win over Slippery Rock with two goals and two assists. She also scored three times in a win over Mansfield. Bloomsburg finished the year with a perfect 21-0 record, while winning their 10th NCAA Field Hockey title. The unbeaten, untied season was third for coach Jan Hutchinson and first since 1999. Dating back to last year the team has won 30 straight games. |
