Hutchinson Named National Coach of the Year

BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University field hockey coach Jan Hutchinson has been named the 2002 Dita/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II National Coach of the Year. The award comes on the heels of Hutchinson leading the Huskies to an undefeated 21-0 season, the fourth undefeated season in Bloomsburg history, which culminated in the school's 11th Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title and 10th national championship.

Hutchinson's teams have posted winning records in each of her 25 seasons at the helm for the Huskies and have won 16 or more games on 19 occasions. She is also the winningest coach in NCAA field hockey history with 440 victories.

Hutchinson has coached seven National Player of the Year winners as well as 41 All-Americans, who have claimed a total of 72 All-American Awards, and 17 Academic All-Americans.

This is the third National Coach of the Year award for Hutchinson, with her other two honors coming in 1991 and 1998. This is her first National Coach of the Year award to come after an undefeated season and her second to come after the Huskies claimed the national title.
