Kristi Ney Scores Twice to Lead Field Hockey Team to 3-0 Win over IUP
BLOOMSBURG—Kristi Ney (Dauphin/Central Dauphin) scored twice to lead the Bloomsburg University Field Hockey team to a 3-0 win over Indiana (PA) in the semi-finals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) playoffs Tuesday afternoon. The win puts the Huskies into the PSAC title game on Saturday, Nov. 1st. The Huskies will host Shippensburg, a 3-2 winner in overtime against Lock Haven, starting at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The Huskies, the top-seed in the PSAC playoffs, had several early scoring opportunities come up empty. The Indians also had one good scoring chance midway through the first half, but Bloomsburg goalie Jamie Hartman (Boyertown/Boyertown) made a kick save on the ball to keep the game scoreless.
Bloomsburg finally broke through with 1:56 to play before halftime when Ney took a pass from Julie Orner (Oxford/Oxford), on a corner play, and banged it home in front of the IUP goalie to make it a 1-0 game at the break.
Early in the second half, the Huskies used another corner play to go up 2-0 with Ney scoring off an assist from Steph Beck (Orefield/Parkland).
Bloomsburg later added an insurance goal when Sharla Partlon (Langhorne/Neshaminy) scored on another corner play with the assist going to Nikki Hartranft (Oley/Oley Valley) with 14:32 left to go in the game. From there, the Bloomsburg defense limited IUP to just two shots on goal to get the win and advance to the conference finals.
Bloomsburg improves to 19-2 on the year, while the Indians end their season at 11-10.
