BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University field hockey standout Sheila Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown) has been named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Fall Top 10 Team.
The Top Ten Awards, selected by the PSAC's sports information directors, recognize student-athletes who distinguish themselves in the classroom, as well as in the arena of competition. The conference designates Top Ten Award winners after each of the sports seasons: fall, winter and spring.
To be a candidate for the Top Ten Awards, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials. Only student-athletes from the fall sports season are eligible for the Fall Top Ten Awards. Those sports are: men's and women's soccer, football, field hockey, women's volleyball and men's and women's cross country.
Zilinski holds a 3.50 GPA in the field of elementary education. After leading the Huskies with 20 goals and 44 points this season, she was named to the first-team All-American, All-PSAC, All-ECAC, and was the womensfield.com National Player of the Year. She was the 2002 PSAC Field Hockey Athlete of the Year, as well as the Honda Division II Collegiate Woman Field Hockey Player of the Year, fieldhockey.com Player of the Year and an ECAC All-Star. This marks the second time Zilinski has received Top Ten honors. Bloomsburg finished the year 22-2 and won both the NCAA Division II title and the PSAC championship for the second straight year.
In addition to the Fall Top 10 team, the league announces at the end of the academic year the Scholar-Athlete Awards, which recognize student-athletes on all PSAC squads with 3.25 cumulative GPAs or better. Additionally, the PSAC names the top Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of Year.
