Bloomsburg Shuts Out Bellarmine in Field Hockey

BLOOMSBURG —Alison Poff (Dallastown/Dallastown) had a hat trick and an assist to lead the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 7-0 win over Bellarmine University on Sunday.

In the first half, Marie Zorzi (Moutaintop/Crestwood) scored the lone Husky goal less than five minutes into the game. Bloomsburg had a flurry of chances in the middle of the half to score, but were unable to put the ball in the net.

The second half the Huskies dominated the Knights scoring six goals and earning nine corners. Poff scored the first goal of the half for the Huskies, less than three minutes into the period. Less than 10 minutes later, Zorzi got her second goal of the game off an assist from Poff, which was followed up by a goal from Jackie Loehwing (York/Dallastown) only three minutes later on an assist from Kristy Kropa (Tunkhannock/Factoryville). About 13 minutes after Loehwing's goal, Poff scored again off an assist from Maribeth Brozena (Larksville/Wyoming Valley West) after four consecutive Bloomsburg corners.

With less than seven minutes remaining, Kropa took a shot directly in front of the goal over the goalkeeper to score for the Huskies. Bloomsburg got their final goal at the 3:58 mark when Poff scored her third goal of the day.

The Huskies out shot the Knights, 22-1, as Tracey Hudak (Sweet Valley/Lake-Lehman) recorded one save in goal for Bloomsburg.

Bloomsburg will travel to Philadelphia University on Wednesday, Oct. 13 to play the Rams at 3:30 p.m.
