Bloomsburg Downs IUP in Field Hockey

INDIANA, PA —Kristi Ney (Dauphin/C.D. East) scored twice to lead the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 3-2 win over Indiana (PA) University on Saturday.

Freshman Ashley Heckard (Millerstown/Greenwood) got Bloomsburg on the board first scoring just 2:16 into the game. IUP tied the score when Elsbeth Beijnes scored on a penalty stroke at the 9:29 mark.

The Huskies took a 2-1 lead with Ney scored her first goal of the game off an assist from Brittney Fox (Reading/Oley Valley) with 11 minutes left to play in the opening half.

IUP tied the score for the second time in the game with less than five minutes to play when Suzanne Cornelissen scored unassisted.

Bloomsburg then got the game-winning goal from Ney with 2:43 to play in the game with Morgan Wolf (Oley/Oley Valley) getting credit for the assist.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Huskies who improve to 11-3, 8-3 in the PSAC. Bloomsburg will host Bellarmine of Kentucky Sunday at 1 p.m.
