Seven Bloomsburg Players Earn All-PSAC Field Hockey Honors
BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University field hockey team had seven players named to the 2005 All Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Field Hockey Team.
Senior mid-fielder Kristi Ney (Dauphin Central Dauphin East), junior midfielder Maribeth Brozena (Larksville/ Wyoming Valley West), junior goalie Tracey Hudak (Sweet Valley/ Lake-Lehamn), and freshman forward Jamie Vanartsdalen (Philadelphia/ Lower Moreland) were awarded All-PSAC first team honors.
Ney, a 2004 All-PSAC first team selection, finished the 2005 season with nine goals and eight assists. Brozena, who was awarded second team honors last season, finished with five goals and eight assists. Jamie Vanartsdalen led the team in scoring and was fourth in the PSAC with 18 goals and seven assists. Tracey Hudak is an All-PSAC first team for the second straight year. She posted a 12-4 record and led the PSAC with five shutouts during the 2005 season.
Freshman forward Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/ Lackawanna Trail), junior defender Brittany Wilkins (Barto/ Boyertown) and freshman defender/mid-fielder Venessa Witman (Oley/ Oley Valley) earned All-PSAC Second Team honors. Kropa was second on the Huskies in scoring with twelve goals and eight assists, while Venessa Witman had four goals and one assist on the year. Brittany Wilkins led a solid defense that was ranked second in the PSAC in goals allowed.
Bloomsburg, 17-4, will host its quarter-final match up against IUP in the NCAA Championships on Saturday at noon.
