Resolution Honoring the Accomplishments

of

Jan Hutchinson

 

 

WHEREAS, Jan Hutchinson has served as the head coach of both the field hockey and softball teams at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania for 28 seasons; and

WHEREAS, as field hockey coach at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, Jan Hutchinson has guided her teams to a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) record 501 wins, while claiming a record 12 national championships, including four straight from 1996 to 1999, and nine runner-up finishes, as well as 13 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) titles; and

 

WHEREAS, as softball coach at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, Jan Hutchinson has led her teams to 1,003 wins -- second all-time in Division II – a record 23 consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament, one national championship, two runner-up finishes and 14 PSAC titles; and

WHEREAS, Jan Hutchinson is the only female coach and just the fourth coach overall in the NCAA to achieve 1,500 career wins; and

 

WHEREAS, as a head coach, Jan Hutchinson has produced 78 All-Americans and nine national “Players of the Year,” the most of any coach in NCAA Division II; and

 

WHEREAS, Jan Hutchinson has been named national “Coach of the Year” in field hockey four times and in softball once; and

WHEREAS, for her career accomplishments, Jan Hutchinson has been elected a member of both the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Hall of Fame and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame, the only coach to receive both honors;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education expresses its congratulations to Jan Hutchinson for her extraordinary accomplishments and for the contributions she has made to all of the student athletes she has coached and mentored throughout her career.
