Bloomsburg Field Hockey is Number One

BLOOMSBURGó For the second time this season, The Bloomsburg University field hockey team is ranked first in the latest STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFCHA) Division II Poll.

Bloomsburg (11-1, 7-1 PSAC) is in the midst of a six game winning streak, including a commanding 6-1 victory over PSAC rival and top-ranked Kutztown last week. The Huskies followed that impressive victory with back-to-back shutouts, blanking Mercyhurst College 5-0 on Friday and drubbing Slippery Rock 9-0 the next day.

The Huskies are led by current PSAC player of the week Ashley Heckard (Millerstown/Greenwood). Heckard has scored seven goals in the past three games to pace the Huskies win streak. For the season, Heckard has 15 goals, second on the team, and has done so while taking just 30 shots. Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntington Valley/Lower Moreland) and Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) have provided the rest of the scoring, leading the conference in total offense with an average of 6.5 goals per game.

Bloomsburg is on the road this week when they face Millersville Wednesday at 4 p.m.
