IUP Wins PSAC Field Hockey Opener

BLOOMSBURG--Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) defeated Kutztown University, 2-1, in the semifinal round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) field hockey championships on Friday.

IUP, 15-1, will face the winner of the Bloomsburg-Shippensburg game, on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. for the PSAC championship. Kutztown falls to 13-6 with the loss.

IUP scored two first half goals in the game, one by Irma Bakker at the 22:41 mark and the second by Shannon Sullivan off an assist from Jess Frantz on a penalty corner less than three minutes later.

Kutztown got on the board with less than 20 minutes to play in the game when Anne Waapu scored on a penalty corner. That was the last shot on goal for the Golden Bears in the game.
