BLOOMSBURG-Sophomore Amanda Riley (Tannersville/Pocono Mountain East) recorded her first career hat trick as No. 1 Bloomsburg University defeated C.W. Post 6-3 in PSAC East field hockey action on Wednesday at Sports Stadium.
The Huskies (13-1, 6-1) got on the scoreboard quickly when senior Breanne Tobin (Perkasie/Pennridge) scored off of a loose ball in front of the net 14 seconds into the game. The Pioneers (4-8, 2-6) tied the game at one when Helene Buckner scored off of a pass from Vicky DeRosa on a penalty corner at the 14:35 mark. Bloomsburg took a 2-1 lead nine minutes later when Riley scored her first goal on an assist from senior Maggey Bloskey (Danville/Danville). Again, C.W. Post would tie the game shortly before the half when Mia Paltrineri scored off of a pass from Buckner at 31:21.
The Bloomsburg offense took flight in the second half, scoring three goals in the first 14 minutes to take a 5-2 lead. Riley got her second goal of the game off a Bloskey pass from the top of the circle at the 40:33 mark. Bloskey put one to the back of the net less than three minutes later when she scored off of a pass from Tobin. Then Riley netted her third goal of the game when she took a shot falling down and scored at the 48:59 mark. The Pioneers would fight back, making the score 5-3 with 10 minutes left when Amanda Nann found the back of the net. However, the Huskies would score the game's final goal at 65:24, when Tobin put a shot past the goalie off of a pass from Bloskey, her third assist of the contest.
Senior Caitlyn Koczynski (Yardley/Neshaminy) went the entire way in goal for the Huskies, registering four saves.
The Huskies are back in action this Saturday when they travel to Mansfield to play the Mountaineers. Bloomsburg return to Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 18 when they host Catawba in what will be the season's final home game.
