Bloomsburg Field Hockey Ranked First in National Poll


BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University field hockey team regained the top spot in the latest Kookaburra/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll. The three-time defending NCAA champion Huskies are coming off a week in which they went 2-0 and outscored their opponents by a margin of 10-3.

The Huskies, 12-1, 5-1 PSAC East, knocked off previously number one ranked Shippensburg last Tuesday 5-1, then on Saturday, they avenged their only loss of the season with a 5-2 win over Kutztown. On the season, Amanda Riley (Tannersville/Pocono Mountain East) leads the Huskies with 14 goals this season, and Breanne Tobin (Perkasie/Pennridge) in second with 13 goals. As a team, the Huskies are averaging 4.8 goals per game, while holding their opponents to just 0.69 goals per game.

Defensively, the Huskies have held their opponents to no shots on goal in a game three times this season. In goal, Caitlin Koczynski (Yardley/Neshaminy) has a goals-against average of 0.78 with 37 saves. The Huskies host C.W. Post on Wednesday, October 7th, at 4 p.m.
