BLOOMSBURG—Five members of the Bloomsburg University field hockey team were selected to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) All-Conference team.
Heading the list is senior attack Jess Kircher (Fleetwood/Oley), who was named the PSAC Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season. She was also a 1998 first team selection and a 1997 second team selection. Kircher scored seven goals this season and had a team-high 13 assists. For her career, Kircher has 20 goals and 25 assists. She was a first team All-American in 1998 and a second team All-American in 1997. In last season's NCAA championship game, Kircher scored two goals to earn Bloomsburg its eighth national title.
Also making the first team is senior Bridgett Heckman (Ephrata/Ephrata). She was a 1998 first team selection and is the Huskies' top goal scorer with 17 goals.
Junior Leah Conte (Ambler/Upper Dublin) was selected to the first team after helping the Bloomsburg defense hold opponents to only seven goals while posting nine shutouts.
Earning second team honors were junior Ammie Carnell (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) and senior Belinda Price (Mifflintown/Juniata). Carnell was the 1997 PSAC Rookie of the Year and was a member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFCA) National Academic Squad in 1998.
Price was the Huskies' second leading goal scorer with 10 goals.
Heckman and Kircher have also been selected to play in the 1999 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II North/South Senior All-Star Game. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 20 at 5:30 p.m. on the campus of Northeastern University.
The Huskies captured their 10th PSAC title with a 2-0 win over Lock Haven and will host Bentley College Sunday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. for the NCAA Division II national championship.
