Bloomsburg Downs West Chester in Women's Lacrosse
WEST CHESTER The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team defeated West Chester on Saturday by a score of 16-10 to win the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) regular season title with a 6-0 record. The Huskies will now host West Chester in the PSAC title game Saturday, May 3rd, at a time to be announced.
Bloomsburg jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game on a goal by Georgia Carinci and two by Katie O'Neill.
West Chester tied the score at 3-3 14 minutes into the game before a Megan Pry goal put the Huskies in front 4-3. West Chester took its only lead of the game by scoring the next two goals and taking a 5-4 edge.
Bloomsburg the rallied on goals by Pry, Sheila Zilinski and Carinci to take a 7-5 lead at the break.
The Huskies increased its margin to 11-5 by scoring the first four goals of the second half. Danielle Yeager, Julie Minogue, Pry and Zilinski also hit the back of the net for the Huskies in the rally.
West Chester mounted one last comeback and cut the margin to 11-7 with 13 minutes to play, but that would be as close as the Golden Rams would get the remainder of the way.
For the game, Pry finished with five goals, while Carinci had another outstanding game with four goals and three assists. Carinci has won the last two PSAC Player of the Week awards.
Bloomsburg goalie Linda Schultz was again solid in net for the Huskies making five saves.
The Huskies have now won 12 straight and are 12-1 overall.
