Bloomsburg Beats East Stroudsburg in Lacrosse
EAST STROUDSBURG The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team beat East Stroudsburg University 18-11 on Saturday.
The Warriors jumped out to a quick lead with a goal just 18 seconds into the game. The Huskies, though, answered back with four straight goals over a three-minute stretch to take a 4-1 lead. After East Stroudsburg scored once to get back to within 4-2, Bloomsburg got back-to-back goals from Georgia Carinci (Springmount/Perkiomen Valley) and Meg Taylor (West Chester/West Chester) to lead 6-2 with 15:46 left in the opening half.
Later, leading 7-3 at the break, the Huskies saw the home team climb back to within three goals, 9-6, with 26 minutes left in the game. The Huskies, though, put the game out of reach with five consecutive goals over the next eight minutes to lead 15-6. Ashley Childs (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) scored three of the goals, while Carinci added two.
The Huskies' goalie Linda Schultz (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) stopped 11 shots earn the victory.
Georgia Carinci led the Huskies with five goals giving her 64 on the season, one shy of the school record. Carinci also added four assists. Childs scored four times for the Huskies, while Sheila Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown) added one goal and three assists.
Bloomsburg, 6-7, 5-5 in the PSAC, host UC Davis at noon tomorrow in a non-conference matchup.
