Bloomsburg Downs Lock Haven In Lacrosse

LOCK HAVEN —The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team, ranked number three in the country, (1-2, 1-0 PSAC) came back to beat Lock Haven 20-15, Tuesday afternoon.

It was a seesaw battle through most of the game with neither team wanting to let the other pull away. It wasn't until halfway through the second half that the Huskies were able to put on a run, taking a four-goal lead, 15-11. The Lady Eagles battled back scoring three unanswered goals to close within one, but Bloomsburg held on netting three goals in 31 seconds to go up by four, 18-14.

The Huskies trailed 3-1 in the early going before answering with three goals to take a 4-3 lead. This seesaw battle would continue for the remainder of the half, finishing with a score of 8-8.

The second half started the way the first half ended with both teams scoring back to back through the first 11 minutes. Bloomsburg got the opening they needed when senior Sheila Zilinski scored two quick goals to bring BU to a 13-11 lead. Teammates Danielle Yeager and Georgia Carinci added two more unanswered goals to move the Huskies lead to four. Lock Haven would battle back with two unassisted goals and a free position shot to cut Bloomsburg lead to one with nine minutes remaining. Bloomsburg then outscored Lock Haven 5-1 in the final minutes to win by five.

Bloomsburg was led in scoring by Georgia Carinci and Sheila Zilinski with six goals each, while Danielle Yeager added five.

The Huskies visit Shippensburg on Thursday at 3 p.m.
