Huskies Fall to UC Davis in Lacrosse

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team fell to the University of California at Davis on Sunday in non-conference action, 13-10.

The Huskies got off to a quick start when Georgia Carinci (Springmount/Perkiomen Valley) scored less than two minutes into the game. UC Davis responded, scoring three straight goals to take a 3-1 advantage. Bloomsburg fought back to knot the game at 3-3 following goals by Karla Honeywell (North Wales/North Penn) and Carinci. UC Davis then exploded for six straight goals to take a 9-3 lead. In that span, Kelly Albin netted four for the Aggies while Stacy Sugarman added the other two. Carinci then assisted on a Danielle Yeager (Delran, NJ/Delran) goal; Yeager returned the favor minutes later to close the margin to 9-5 in favor of the Aggies with three minutes remaining in the half. UC Davis' Albin then scored her sixth goal of the half to leave the score 10-5 at the end of one.

In the second half, Bloomsburg scored three straight, two by Carinci, the other by Yeager, to close the gap to 10-8. The teams then traded two goals a piece in a matter of :44, leaving the score 12-10 with eight minutes remaining. The Huskies couldn't muster another goal, while Albin netted her seventh with two minutes remaining to help UC Davis to the 13-10 win.

Carinci led the Huskies on the day with five goals and three assists. Carinci now has 69 goals on the season, a Bloomsburg record. Danielle Yeager added a hat trick while both Meg Taylor (West Chester/West Chester) and Karla Honeywell chipped in with a goal each. Linda Schultz (Doylestown/ Central Bucks West) stopped 11 shots on the day in net for the Huskies.

The loss drops the Huskies to 6-8 on the season while UC Davis improves to 9-3.

The Huskies return to action on Thursday as they travel to Millersville to face the Marauders at 4:00 p.m.
