Lacrosse Tops IUP

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team (7-3, 6-1 PSAC) dominated IUP (1-6, 0-6 PSAC) on their way to an 18-6 victory on Wednesday.
In the first half, Bloomsburg got off to a fast start, scoring the games' first five goals. IUP cut into the lead with the final four goals of the half, but still trailed 8-5 at the break. Senior Sheila Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown) led the Huskies with four first half goals, while Cali Toms (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) added two goals and an assist.
Bloomsburg came out firing again to start the second half, scoring nine unanswered before IUP tallied their lone goal of the half with 9:14 to play. Brittany Wilkins (Barto/Boyertown) rounded out the scoring by adding her second goal of the game with 3:03 remaining.
Danielle Yeager (Delran, NJ/Delran) scored four goals and recorded a game-high four assists, while Zilinski ended up with a game-high five goals. Ashley Childs (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and Toms recorded two goals and two assists each, while Meg Taylor (West Chester/West Chester) added one goal and two helpers. In goal for the Huskies, Bridget Maenner (Philadelphia/Catholic) made seven saves while holding IUP to six goals.
Mallory Zelawski and Amy Hood led the Indians with two goals a piece.
With the win, Bloomsburg remains second in the PSAC standings and will next travel to first place West Chester on April 9th for a 1:00 p.m. start.
