Bloomsburg Downs Lock Haven in Lacrosse

BLOOMSBURG— Cali Toms (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) scored a game-high five goals to lead the Bloomsburg University lacrosse team to a 12-8 win over Lock Haven on Tuesday afternoon.

Lock Haven opened the scoring in the game with a goal from Diana Strizki 13:52 into the game. Bloomsburg knotted the score at 1-1 with a goal just over a minute later when Meg Taylor (West Chester/West Chester) scored. The teams continued to alternate goals until the Huskies finally scored back-to-back goals in the final minutes of the half to give the home team a one-goal edge at the break, 5-4.

In the second half the Lady Eagles tied the score at 7-7 after netting three of the first five goals of the period. However, Bloomsburg then grabbed the lead for good with Toms leading the way.

The freshman Toms scored twice in a 28-second span midway through the period to break the tie for Bloomsburg with Dani Yeager (Delran, NJ/Delran) getting the assist on both goals. Toms then scored unassisted a few minutes later with Yeager adding a goal of her own with 7:40 to play to give Bloomsburg an 11-7 lead.

Lock Haven did get back one of the goals when Jenna Richter scored with 5:34 to play. However, Sheila Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown) iced the game for Bloomsburg with a goal with 1:27 to play.

Along with Toms scoring five times, Dani Yeager had three goals and two assists. Lock Haven was led by Strizki with four goals.

Bloomsburg improves to 3-3, 2-1 in the PSAC, while Lock Haven falls from the ranks of the unbeaten and are now 4-1, 2-1 in the PSAC.

The Huskies visit Shippensburg on Saturday at noon.
