Lacrosse Drops Mercyhurst

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team topped Mercyhurst in action on Wednesday by a score of 17-8.
Bloomsburg scored the first three goals of the game and would never trail. Sheila Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown) scored her first of six goals on the game 1:14 into the first half. Angela Picciotti (Chalfont/Chalfont) netted another goal forty seconds later before Danielle Yeager (Delran, NJ/Delran) scored unassisted to put Bloomsburg up 3-0, 2:39 into the game. Mercyhurst scored their first goal 14:08 into the game before Bloomsburg would tally four more to make the score 7-1. The Lakers would add a goal with 1:40 remaining in the half to cut the Bloomsburg lead to 7-2.
In the second half, Bloomsburg came out strong as Zilinski scored her fifth goal of the game at the 34:07 mark. After two Mercyhurst goals, the Huskies responded with four straight goals. Allison McFatridge (Hatboro/Upper Moreland) sandwiched two goals between two Yeager scores. Mercyhurst added two more goals to make the score 12-6 in favor of the Huskies, but could get no closer. Cali Toms (Pottstown/Pottsgrove), Ashley Childs (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West), and Brittany Wilkins (Barto/Boyertown) each scored minutes apart to put the game out of reach.
On top of Zilinski's six goal performance, Yeager also played a solid game, scoring three goals and assisting on four others. Cali Toms finished with a hat trick while Bridget Maenner (Philadelphia/Catholic) played well in net, stopping nine shots.
Kristen Jankowski led the Lakers with three goals while Dara Liberati had two goals and two assists.
With the win, Bloomsburg improves to 10-5 on the year. The Huskies will close out their regular season on Saturday as they host Millersville at 1:00 p.m.
