Lacrosse Tops Shippensburg

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team (8-5, 7-3 PSAC) defeated Shippensburg University, 12-8, on Friday.
Leading the way for the Huskies was Sheila Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown) who scored a game-high four goals to go along with one assist, while Cali Toms (PottstownPottsgrove) chipped in with three goals.
Shippensburg struck first with Kim Hudicka scoring the games' first goal 6:39 into the game. The Huskies would answer getting three consecutive goals from Toms , Zilinski and Danielle Yeager (Delran, NJ/Delran) to give Bloomsburg a 3-1 lead.
The Raiders came back scoring two goals late in the half, however, it was Zilinski who gave the Huskies the momentum heading into the break as she scored two goals in the final 2:15 of the first half.
Meg Taylor (West Chester/West Chester) got the Huskies offense rolling in the second half scoring on a Zilinski assist 8:28 into the half opening up a 6-3 Bloomsburg lead. Shippensburg then responded with two goals from Amanda Vogelsong and Suzanne Brazeau closing the Huskies' lead to one.
Needing some more offensive fire, Taylor beat the tender on an assist from Yeager halfway through the second half giving the Huskies a two goal lead. The Raiders got a goal from Brita Paul inching Shippensburg to within one once again, however, the Huskies proved to be too much as they rallied for four unanswered goals to put the game out of reach going on top 11-6 with 4:07 to play. Scoring goals in that stretch were Toms with two goals, Yeager and Meaghan McDugall (Blue Bell/Wissahickon).
Shippensburg scored two late goals but it wouldn't be enough as the Huskies held on for a 12-8 victory.
Bridget Maenner (Philadelphia/Catholic) earned the win in goal for the Huskies making three saves. Michelle Mangle played tough in goal for the Raiders finishing the game with 11 saves.
Bloomsburg will next be in action Monday as they travel to play East Stroudsburg at 4:00 p.m.
