Bloomsburg Falls in Lacrosse

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team fell to conference rival West Chester Saturday afternoon, 16-11.
The Huskies, now 2-3, 1-1 in the PSAC, were led by Danielle Yeager (Delran, NJ/Delran) with four goals, while West Chester, now 2-0, 2-0 in the PSAC, was led by Katelyn Martin who scored a game-high seven goals.
West Chester struck early in the first half taking a 2-0 lead behind goals from Martin and Caitlin Pettit, both coming in the third minute of play. Bloomsburg would get on the board as Cali Toms (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) beat the tender off an assist from Sheila Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown) at the 24:07 mark bringing the Huskies within one goal, 2-1.
The Golden Rams would rally to score four unanswered goals between the 6:15 and 14:41 marks. Scoring goals in that time were Danielle Roy with two goals, while Neilly Oliver and Kristin McGoldrick each had one. Yeager would score her first goal of the game at the 16:20 mark cutting into the West Chester lead to make the score 6-2.
After another West Chester goal by Tara Wagner at the 16:42 mark, Bloomsburg began to slice into the deficit scoring four straight goals late in the opening half making the score 7-6 in favor of West Chester. McGoldrick added one more goal for the Golden Rams at the 1:56 mark giving them an 8-6 halftime lead.
The second half started much like the first with West Chester scoring two quick goals, both by Martin, to open up a 10-6 lead. The Huskies would respond as the two teams began exchanging goals with Zilinski striking first for Bloomsburg at the 4:53 mark bringing the Huskies within three, 10-7. Martin would earn her hat trick minutes later beating the tender to open up a 11-7 lead after the 6:36 mark. Bloomsburg's Jamie Spitzer (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) returned the favor scoring a goal to make it 11-8 in favor of the Golden Rams at the 7:46 mark; however Martin would strike again to reopen a four-point, 12-8, lead.
Yeager once again cut the West Chester lead to three scoring a goal at the 12:17 mark making it 12-9. The Golden Rams slammed the door on the Huskies scoring three straight goals late in the second half to open up a 15-9 lead with just over eight minutes to play.
Ashley Childs (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and Zilinski each added goals late in the game, however, it was Martin capping off a tremendous showing scoring the final goal of the game at the 5:38 mark sealing the 16-11 victory.
In goal, Bridget Maenner (Philadelphia/Catholic) made 18 saves for the Huskies, while Chelsea Marshall made eight saves, while earning the win for West Chester.
Bloomsburg will next be in action Tuesday as they play host to Lock Haven at 4:00 p.m.
