Huskies Fall to Lock Haven in Home Final

BLOOMSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team lost to nationally-ranked Lock Haven in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Thursday by a score of 16-13.
The game got off to a quick start for Bloomsburg as Cali Toms (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) scored the game's first goal one minute into the contest. After Lock Haven countered with a goal eight minutes later, Kelsey Quigley (Lansdale/Methacton) gave Bloomsburg the lead back with an unassisted goal at the 11:07 mark. After two straight goals by Lock Haven, Bloomsburg came right back with two straight goals of their own, as Toms and Tia Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) scored to give the Huskies the lead back at 4-3.
After Lock Haven scored two consecutive goals to take a 5-4 lead, Bloomsburg controlled the rest of the first period, scoring three of the next four goals scored. Kylie Matthews (Gilbertsville/Boyertown) scored two of the three goals registered by the Huskies, while Cara McGroarty (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) rounded out the scoring for the half with a goal at the 28:02 mark that gave Bloomsburg a 7-6 lead.
In the second half, Lock Haven controlled from the start outscoring Bloomsburg 9-2 over a 19-minute span that gave the Lady Eagles a 15-9 lead. Bloomsburg, however, would not quit, as they would score four consecutive goals over a five minute span to make the score 15-13. However, Lock Haven put the game away with a goal at the 57 minute mark to secure a 16-13 win.
Toms ended the day with four goals, while Quigley and Matthews each registered two goals and two assists for the Huskies. In goal, Bridget Maenner (Philadelphia/Little Flower) made four saves.
Bloomsburg, now 8-8, 8-5 in the PSAC, returns to action on Saturday when they visit Shippensburg beginning at 1:00 p.m.
