Bloomsburg University Lacrosse Picked to Finish Second

BLOOMSBURG -The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team has been picked to finish second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division, according to the PSAC lacrosse coaches.

Bloomsburg returns several key players from a 2008 squad that finished with a record of 9-9 overall, 9-5 in the PSAC under second year head coach Leah Quigley-Carr.

Bloomsburg returns three All-PSAC selections from last season in sophomore Ashley Bowers (Springfield/Springfield) , attacker Kelsey Quigley (Lansdale/Methacton) and midfielder Cara McGroarty (Pottstown/Pottsgrove).

Bowers, a sophomore, had a breakout freshman season in which she was named a second team All-American by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). Bowers was also named second team All-South Region by the IWLCA as a defender, leading the Huskies in ground balls with 51 and had 22 caused turnovers and 15 draw controls.

Quigley, a senior, was a second team All-PSAC selection, finishing the last season third on the team in goals scored with 26 plus a team-high 20 assists. She also had 43 ground balls, 24 draw controls and 23 caused turnovers. It was the second consecutive year Quigley was a second team All-PSAC selection.

McGroarty, a senior, was named a second team All-PSAC defender for the first time. McGroarty led the Huskies in caused turnovers last season with 25 and had 42 ground balls and 11 draw controls. She also chipped in with six goals and five assists.

West Chester is picked to finish first in the east, followed by Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, Millersville, Shippensburg and Kutztown. In the west, Lock Haven was picked first followed by Mercyhurst Gannon, IUP, Slippery Rock and Edinboro.

Bloomsburg opens their 2009 campaign tomorrow when they host Seton Hill. The game is set for a 4:00 p.m. start.
