Huskies Rally for Win over Cheyney in Men's BasketballBLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University used an 18-0 to start the second half to rally from a six points halftime deficit and went on to defeat Cheyney University, 83-61, Wednesday night. With Cheyney (8-11, 1-5 PSAC East) leading 34-28 at the break, the Huskies (6-13, 2-4 PSAC East) came out firing and scored 18 unanswered points over the first 4:47 seconds of the second half to grab a 46-34 lead with 14:27 to play. Ryan Luckman (York/York Catholic) and Adam Bohman (Sussex, NJ/Vernon Twp) each scored six points in the run for Bloomsburg. The Wolves finally stopped the Huskies rally with a free throw at the 14:13 mark. Bloomsburg, though, continued to score and play great defense and eventually took a 60-41 lead with 8:31 to play on a pair of free throws from Tom Barlow (Dresher/Upper Dublin). The Huskies biggest lead of the game came with 58 seconds remaining to play when Jaren Burdine (Reading/Reading) dunked on fast break to give Bloomsburg a 25 point margin, 83-58. The game start like it would be close throughout as the teams combined for four ties and five lead changes in the opening half. Freshman Matt Jefferson (Philadelphia/Engineering and Science) was on-fire early for the Huskies and scored eight of the team's first 10 points. With the Huskies holding a 10-7 lead, the Wolves scored seven straight to take a 14-10 lead. The Huskies would go ahead briefly at 22-20 on Luckman's three-pointer, but the Wolves would close out the half with a 14-6 run to lead by six at intermission setting the stage for the Huskies rally. Bohman led the Huskies with 16 points, while Luckman added 15 points, six rebounds and six assists. Barlow and Jefferson each chipped in with 14 each. For Jefferson, last week's PSAC East Rookie of the Week, it was a career-high in scoring. Cheyney had three players with 10 points each, Jeffrey Powell, Anthony Frazier and Melvin Eason. Bloomsburg will visit West Chester Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. |
