Kutztown Beats Bloomsburg in Men's BasketballBLOOMSBURG—In a game that featured six ties and 14 lead changes, the Kutztown University Golden Bears defeated Bloomsburg University, 85-78 in men's basketball action Wednesday night. The two teams traded leads in the early going with the Huskies (4-13, 1-4 PSAC East) leading 11-10 at the 15:55 mark on a pair of free throws by Jaren Burdine (Reading/Reading). The Golden Bears (14-4, 4-0 PSAC East), though, came back and went up by five, 16-11, with 13:55 left in the half with the help of a bucket and two free throws from Alburn Brown. But, the Huskies came back with a 16-seven run highlighted by four points each from Ryan Luckman (York/York Catholic) and Adam Bohman (Sussex, NJ/Vernon Twp) to give Bloomsburg a 27-23 lead with 6:39 to go in the half. The Golden Bears, though, then went on a 23-7 run over the next five minutes to grab a 46-33 lead with 1:42 left. Vince Pease had nine points in the run for Kutztown. The Huskies used a 7-0 to end the half and trailed by just six at the break, 46-40. In the second half, Kutztown pushed the lead to 10 points, 56-46, with 15:37 to play on a layup from Bobby Eberhart. But, a 13-2 run led by Tom Barlow (Dresher/Upper Dublin) and Matt Jefferson (Philadelphia/Engineering and Science) rallied the Huskies to take a one point lead, 59-58, with 12:09 left in the game. Barlow scored seven and Jefferson six for Bloomsburg in the rally. The teams then traded leads over the next few minutes before the Golden Bears went for good, 72-69, on a three-pointer from Eberhart with 5:37 left in the game. A Bohman bucket with 5:08 left made it a one-point game at 72-71. But that would be as close as the Huskies would get the rest of the way. Kutztown held the Huskies without a field goal over the final 5:08 of the game and limited them to just seven of 10 from the free throw, while connecting on 4-6 in the final minute to get the win. Pease led the way for Kutztown with 22 points, while Eberhart added 18 and TJ Mann 15. Tom Barlow, who tied his career high with 28 points, led the Huskies in scoring. Barlow scored his 1,000th career point early in the game on a layup. He is the 22nd player in school history to suprass 1,000 career points. Adam Bohman added 15 points and Matt Jefferson 12 points for Bloomsburg. Ryan Luckman finished with eight points, 11 assists and three rebounds for the Huskies. The Huskies host Pitt-Johnstown Saturday at 7 p.m. |
