Bloomsburg Falls to Mansfield-Barlow Nets 27 in LossMANSFIELD Brett Longpre' scored 17 points to lead five Mansfield players in double figures as the Mountaineers defeated Bloomsburg University, 73-64, in men's basketball action Wednesday night. The Mounties, 12-6, started quickly in the game behind the shooting of Longpre' who scored six points in an 8-0 start for Mansfield. Bloomsburg's Justin Scott (Philadelphia/Engineering and Science) broke the Mounties' run with a jumper 4:08 into the game and helped the Huskies (3-12, 0-3 PSAC East) pull to within four, 16-12, with 12:02. Mansfield pushed the lead to 25-14 on a basket by Kris Gibbs-Smith with 6:59 left in the game. After a couple of free throws from Ryan Luckman (York/York Catholic) and Ryan Hewitt (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and jumper by Jaren Burdine (Reading/Reading) brought the Huskies back to within six, 29-23, the Mounties closed out the half with an 8-5 run to lead 37-28 at halftime. Mansfield scored first in the second half to go up by 11, 39-28, before another rally by Bloomsburg closed the gap. Tom Barlow (Dresher/Upper Dublin) got hot for the Huskies and scored seven points in a 10-3 run to get Bloomsburg back in the game at 42-38 with 15:47 to play. Later, with Mansfield leading still leading by four points, 47-43, the Mounties went on a 9-0 run to open a 56-43 advantage with 9:23 to play. The Huskies, though, came back one more time. A jumper by Burdine and a three-point play by Barlow got the lead down to five, 61-56, with six minutes left. Then, with the Mansfield still clinging to a five-point lead, the Mounties went on a 5-0 to make it a 10-point lead, 70-60, with 1:34 left. Down the stretch the Mounties hit only three of six free throws, however, the Huskies could manage just one there pointer from Barlow in the final 1:25 and lost by nine. Barlow led the Huskies, 3-12, 0-3 in the PSAC, with 27 points. The senior now needs just 17 points to reach 1,000 for his career. Ryan Luckman just missed triple-double after scoring 11 points, getting 11 assists and grabbing nine rebounds. Along with 17 points for Mansfield's Longpre', Bill McNeil and Smith-Gibbs added 15 each, while Ian Connor had 12 and Jason Mattern 10. Bloomsburg will visit East Stroudsburg Saturday night at 8 p.m.
