Clarion Rallies for Win Over Bloomsburg

CLARION —Clarion University rallied from a five point half-time deficit to defeat Bloomsburg University, 74-60, in men's basketball action Sunday afternoon.

The two teams battled close in the opening minutes of the first half and were tied at 9-9 after two free throws by the Huskies Justin Scott (Philadelphia/Engineering and Science) with 13:44 left to play in the period. Bloomsburg then went on a 17-7 run to take a 26-16 lead with 4:13 left in the half. Tom Barlow (Dresher.Upper Dublin) scored eight of the team's 17 points in the run to put the Huskies in control.

Clarion, though, cut the margin to five at halftime after holding the Huskies to just two points over the final 4:13 of action.

In the second half, with the Huskies leading 35-34 at the 15:20 mark, Clarion took its first lead since early in the first half on a jumper by Shamar Green. After the team's exchanged leads over the next seven minutes, the Golden Eagles went ahead for good on a three-pointer by Dereck Rankin with 7:30 left in the game. The shot was the start of a 12-2 run for Clarion, which gave it a 58-48 lead with 4:48 left to play.

The Huskies got the margin below double digits just once the rest of the game, 60-52, on a couple of free throws by Adam Bohman (Sussex, NJ/Vernon Twp). Clarion took its biggest lead of the game at 15 points, 67-52, on a Green lay-up with 1:49 to play.

Barlow led the Huskies, now 3-5, with 23 points, while Bohman scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds. Clarion, 7-2, was led by Rankin with 23 points, while Rollie Smith added 13 and Terrance Vaughn 12 for the Golden Eagles.

Bloomsburg will be at Lock Haven Saturday, Jan. 4th at 5 p.m.
