Bloomsburg Beats Shippensburg 81-70 in Men's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG—Tom Barlow (Dresher/Upper Dublin) scored a game-high 25 points to lead Bloomsburg University to an 81-70 victory over Shippensburg University Saturday afternoon at Nelson Field House.

Bob Nenstiel (Nuremburg/Weatherly) came off the bench to hit a jumper and give Bloomsburg a 12-6 lead five minutes into the game. Shippensburg responded with a 7-0 run to take its second lead of the game at 13-12.

Adam Bohman (Sussex, NJ/Vernon Twp.) and Jason Benson (Pittsburgh/Schenley) scored back-to-back buckets late in the first half to help the Huskies to a 44-29 lead at intermission.

Shippensburg battled in the second half and cut the deficit to 10 with under eight minutes to play in the game on a three-pointer by Means.

The Raiders got within four on a three-pointer by Jeff Madra (Edinboro/General McLane) but Barlow answered with a lay-up, a jumper and two foul shots to end the comeback.

The Huskies were helped by 38 points in the paint, 19 points off turnovers and 18 second-chance points. Bloomsburg shot 53.3% from the field and forced 15 turnovers while holding the Raiders to 47.5% shooting.

Barlow, who scored a career-high 28 in Friday's loss to IUP, was 8 for 13 from the field and 8 of 9 from the free throw line as the Huskies improves to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC.

Bohman added 22 points and a game-high 14 rebounds while Benson finished with 20 points for Bloomsburg.

Ron Banks (Philadelphia/West Catholic) led the Raiders with 24 points and Michael Means (Stevens/Cocalico) added 18 points and two blocked shots.

The Huskies improve to 3-3 with the win, while the Red Raiders fall to 3-3.

The Huskies are idle until December 21 when they travel to Edinboro. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
