Bloomsburg Falls to Shepherd 77-74
BLOOMSBURG—Mark Jennings scored 28 points to lead Shepherd College to a 77-74 victory over Bloomsburg University.
The Huskies were down by 17 points in the second half and tied the game for the first time with less than a minute on the clock. Keith Fanjoy hit a layup with one second on the clock to put the Rams ahead for good. Kevin Newsome sealed the game with a free throw after a Bloomsburg technical foul with one second left.
The Rams started off strong, shooting 14-of-21 (66.7%) from the floor in the first half, while the Huskies shot just 9-of-31 (29%). Shepherd led by as many as 12 in the first half, but the Huskies would come back to make it 36-28 at the intermission.
Shepherd then went on a 9-0 run to start the second half, giving the Huskies their largest deficit of the game at 45-28. The Huskies would slowly battle back eventually tying the score at 72-72 on a Ryan Luckman (York/York Catholic) layup with 57 seconds left in the game. Jennings would hit a layup at the other end to put the Rams ahead 74-72. Luckman tied the game again with two free throws before Fanjoy's last second heroics.
Luckman hit for a career-high 25 points in the game to lead Bloomsburg. He also added eight rebounds. Tom Barlow (Dresher/Upper Dublin) tied a career-high with 24 points, including 20 second-half points.
The Huskies fall to 2-2 with the loss. Shepherd improves to 3-1.
Bloomsburg will host Indiana (PA) Friday night at 8 p.m.
