Cheyney Defeats Bloomsburg in Men's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG—Anthony Frazier scored 22 points to lead five players in double figures as Cheyney University defeated Bloomsburg University, 96-74, in men's college basketball action Wednesday night.
The Huskies jumped out to a 5-0 lead on a jumper from Seth Scott (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) and three-pointer from Ryan Nenstiel (Nuremburg/Weatherly). The Wolves rallied and knotted the game at 7-7 on a three-pointer from Bruce Hall with 14:40 left in the first half. Bloomsburg, though, got back to back three-pointers from Nenstiel on consecutive trips down the floor to go up six, 13-7. Later with the Huskies still holding a six-point lead at 19-13, the Wolves went on a 14-2 run to lead, 27-21, with 6:14 to go in the half. Melvin Eason scored six points in the run for Cheyney.
After Cheyney pushed its seven point halftime lead to nine, Nenstiel drained another three-pointer for Bloomsburg to bring the Huskies within 44-38, with 18:48 left in the game. Then later, with the Wolves leading by 12, Justin Scott (Philadelphia/Engineering and Science) hit a three-pointer for the Huskies to get Bloomsburg back under 10 at 56-47, with 14:56 left in the game. However, the Wolves slowly built their advantage to 20 points over the next six minutes and led 72-52, on an Eason free throw. Frazier led the charge for the Wolves scoring nine points in the rally.
Cheyney had its biggest lead of the night at 24 points, 91-67, when Anthony Orr hit a jumper with 1:45 to go.
Along with 22 points for Frazier, Cheyney, 20-6, 9-2 in the PSAC East, had Eason score 18, while Bruce Hall chipped in with 11 with Johnny Gloster and Khairs Byrd getting 10 each.
Bloomsburg, 6-20, 1-11 PSAC East, got 22 points from Nenstiel and a career-high 16 points for senior Ryan Hewitt (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) playing in his final home game. John Owens (Philadelphia/Abington Friends) added 15 and Justin Scott 10 for the Huskies.
Bloomsburg closes out the 2003-04 season at Pitt-Johnstown Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
