Bloomsburg Falls To Mansfield in Men's Basketball

MANSFIELD Bret Longpre` scored a game-high 28 points to lead Mansfield University to a 96-83 win over Bloomsburg in men's basketball action Wednesday night.
Bloomsburg held an early three-point edge in the game, 10-7, after a basket and free throw from Seth Scott (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) with 16:54 to play in the half. The Mountaineers tied the score at 11-all on a Robert Carter jumper at the 15:36 mark. Mansfield grabbed the lead for good on an Ian Connor jumper which made the score 17-15 with 12:16 left in the half.
Later, with the Mountaineers leading by five points, 28-23, the Mansfield went on a 9-0 run. Omari Pearson scored four points and Glen Jackson added three in the rally, while Bill McNeil's basket put the home team up 37-23. Mansfield later stretched the margin to 20 points, 54-34, when Longpre` hit a three-pointer with 31 seconds left in the half. It was one of four, three-pointers for the senior in the first half of play.
In the second half, the Huskies cut the deficit to 14 points, 65-51, on back-to-back baskets by John Owens (Philadelphia/Abington Friends) and Brian Holsey (Philadelphia/JR Masterman). Mansfield, though, went on a 12-2 run to take a 77-53 lead with 10 minutes left to play and put the game out of reach.
Along with Longpre` getting 28 points for the Mountaineers, Omari Pearson scored 23 points and added 13 rebounds. McNeil scored 17 points, while Connor added 14 points for Mansfield, 20-5, 7-3 in the PSAC East.
Bloomsburg, 6-18, 1-9 in the PSAC East, was led in scoring by Ryan Nenstiel's (Nuremburg/Weatherly) 22 points, while Seth Scott finished with 18 points and Owens 17 points and seven assists. Ryan Hewitt (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) chipped in with 10 points.
The Huskies host Kutztown on Saturday at 8 p.m.
