Huskies Fall to Millersville in Men's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG—Toochi Udeinya scored a team-high 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Millersville to a 75-72 win over Bloomsburg in men's college basketball action Wednesday night.
The real hero of the night for Millersville though was Alston Ellis, playing in his first game with the Maruaders, who hit a three-pointer to give the visitors as two-point lead, 72-70, with 1:50 to play in the game. Ellis is a transfer from Shippensburg with one semester of eligibility left.
After Millersville grabbed the lead, the Marauders hit four of six from the foul line in the final 20 seconds to seal the win.
The Huskies jumped out to a quick 11-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game behind four points from Jason Benson (Pittsburgh/Schenly). The Marauders, though, rallied and cut the deficit to two, 15-13, when Kyle McLaughlin hit a three-pointer with 11:59 to play in the half. Then took the lead later in the half at 26-24 when Mark Gerhart hit two free throws.
After Millersville increased its lead to seven, 35-28, Benson hit a couple of free throws and Seth Scott (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) scored inside to leave the Huskies trailing by three at the break.
In the second half, Bloomsburg tied the score at 37-all when Ryan Hewitt (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) scored off a rebound. Millersville, though, came right back and regained the lead on a jumper by Ivan Jelcic with 17:05 left in the game. Millersville held the lead until 10:19 to play when Bloomsburg tied it for the second time in the half on a layup by Benson.
The Huskies, then later, finally grabbed the lead for the first time since the first half when Benson converted a pair of free throws with 4:33 to play. After A Udeinya jumper put Millersville back up by one, Ryan Nenstiel (Nuremburg/Weatherly) drained a three-pointer for Bloomsburg to give the Huskies a 68-66 lead. Millersville then tied it again on a Gerhart jumper before Benson hit one of two free throws with 2:05 left to give the Huskies their final lead of the night and setting up Alston's go-ahead three.
In addition to Udeinya getting 26, Micah Davenport and Gerhart each added 10 points for Millersville, now 8-7, 1-0 in the PSAC East.
Bloomsburg got a career-high 29 points from Benson with Nenstiel adding 15 for Bloomsburg, 5-10, 0-1 in the PSAC East.
The Huskies visit West Chester on Saturday at 3 p.m. in their next game.
