Bloomsburg Falls to Pitt-Johnstown In Basketball

JOHNSTOWN —Nick Mezyk scored a game-high 20 points to lead Pitt-Johnstown to a 91-66 win over Bloomsburg University in men's basketball action Saturday evening.

The loss for the Huskies ends their season at 6-21, while the Mountain Cats finish with a mark of 19-8.

The Huskies held the lead for two brief periods in the first half, 5-3 and 7-6, before the Mountain Cats went on 13-2 run to get control of the game at 19-9 with 12 minutes to play in the game. Marc Falcone and Joe Tutchstone split eight points in the rally.

Later with UPJ holding a 32-20 lead, the Huskies cut the deficit in half with an 8-2 run, to trail 34-28 with 4:22 to play in the first half. Ryan Nenstiel (Nuremburg/Weatherly) scored five of the Huskies eight points in the run. Pitt-Johnstown, though, closed out the half with a 6-0 run to lead by 14 at the break.

In the second half, UPJ came out strong and outscored Bloomsburg 14-6 over the first seven minutes to extend the lead to 22 points, 63-41. The Mountain Cats led by as many as 30 in the game before settling for the 25 point win.

Freshman John Owens (Philadelphia/Abington Friends) led the Huskies with 19 points, while Nenstiel, another first year player, added 16 points.

Along with 20 from Mezyk for Pitt-Johnstown, Dwight Hines added 13, while Steve Scorpion chipped in with 11. Tutchstone and Falcone added 10 each for UPJ.
