Bloomsburg Falls to Bowie State in Men's Basketball

BOWIE, MD Anton Jenifer scored a team-high 18 points to lead Bowie State to an 85-61, come-from-behind win over Bloomsburg University Friday evening in day one of the Bowie State Best Western Invitational.
Bloomsburg jumped out to the early lead in the game leading, 13-6 with 13:04 to play in the opening half on a three-pointer by Ryan Nenstiel. The Bulldogs cut the margin back to two points, 22-20, on a three-pointer by Jenifer at the 6:33 mark of the first half. Then with the Huskies leading 29-26, Bloomsburg went on a 9-2 run to lead by 10 at 38-28 with 47 seconds left in the half. Bowie State, though, closed with a couple of free throws and a dunk at the buzzer to get within six, 38-32, at halftime.
The Bulldogs opened the second half scoring the first six points to tie the game at 38-38, the first tie in the game since 2-2 in the opening minute. The teams then traded leads over the next few minutes before the score was tied at 53-all with 12:49 left in the game. From that point on it was all Bowie State.
The host team went on a 16-3 run to push its lead to 69-56 with 7:31 left in the game. Bloomsburg was plaqued with four turnovers during the Bowie State rally and would not get any closer. Bowie stretched the lead to 25, 85-60, with 10 seconds to play before a late free throw by the Huskies made the final margin 24.
Along with Jenifer's 17 points, Shawn Hampton scored 15 with Allen Van Norden and Ray Akinola getting 13 each.
Bloomsburg was led in scoring by Jason Benson with 18 points, while Nenstiel had 11 and Todd Schweitzer 10.
The loss was the first of the season for the Huskies, now 2-1, while Bowie State improves to 2-0. The Huskies face St. Augustine's College Saturday at 2 p.m. in the second game of the tournament.
