Bloomsburg Falls to California (PA) in Men's Basketball

CALIFORNIA, PA —Kevin Handy scored 20 points to lead five players in double figures as California (PA) rolled to a 102-63 win over Bloomsburg University in men's basketball action Thursday night.

California remained unbeaten at 9-0, while the Huskies fell to 3-6.

The teams were locked in a tight battle throughout the first half with the Huskies holding an early 6-5 lead in the game on a three-pointer by Ryan Nenstiel (Nuremburg/Weatherly). But, the Vulcans regained the lead on a layup by Sherman Brittingham with 17:07 left in the opening half. The Vulcans slowly built their lead to eight points before a layup by Jason Benson (Pittsburgh/Schenley) cut the deficit back to six, 26-20, with 9:27 left in the first half. From that point on it was all Cal.

The Vulcans used a 24-0 run over the next seven minutes to push the lead to 30 points, 50-20. Brittingham scored six points in the run, while Sharif Bray added five points. The Huskies' Jason Benson finally broke the run with a layup with 2:39 to play.

In the second half, the Huskies got to within 25 points on several occasions, but no closer. The Vulcans continued to add to their lead extending it to 45 points, 102-57, with 1:51 to play in the game.

Along with Handy scoring 20 points, Michael Johnson and Gerrman Ballad added 18 points each, while Sharif Bray added 14 and Brittingham 10.

The Huskies were led in scoring by Nenstiel who had a career-high 17 points, while Seth Scott (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) added 14 and Benson 13.

Bloomsburg is idle till Jan. 3rd when it faces Indiana (PA) at Indiana.
