Bloomsburg Falls to IUP in Men's Basketball

INDIANA —The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team ended its layoff for the holidays with a 72-57 loss to Indiana (PA) on Saturday afternoon.

In the first half the Huskies trailed by as many as 15 points, 21-6, before going on a 16-4 run over a five minutes stretch to close the gap to 25-22 with 4:08 to play. Freshman John Owens keyed the rally with seven points for the Huskies. After the Indians pushed the lead back to eight, 34-26, a jumper by Justin Scott and a free throw by Ryan Hewitt sent Bloomsburg to the locker room trailing by just five, 34-29.

IUP came out strong to start the second half and led by 13, 47-34, with 13:59 to play in the game on a jumper by Brian Kizzie. The Huskies, though, came roaring back and went on a 16-6 run to get back within three, 53-50, with 5:40 left in the game. Seth Scott scored six and Hewitt three in Bloomsburg's run.

The Indians, a veteran team, regrouped and went on a 15-0 over the next three minutes to jump out to an 18-point edge and seal the win. Leading the way for IUP was Eric Castortina who scored seven of his nine points in three-minute stretch.

IUP, now 8-2, was led in scoring by Donovan Thomas with 18 points, while G.J. Macon added 16.

Bloomsburg, now 3-7, was led in scoring by Seth Scott with 13 points, while Justin Scott and John Owens added 10 each.

The Huskies play at Shippensburg Sunday at 3 p.m.
