Bloomsburg Downs Lock Haven in Men's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG—Jason Benson and John Owens scored 16 points each to lead the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team to an 81-61 win over Lock Haven University Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies (3-4) led for most of the first half, except for a brief 5-4 lead by the Bald Eagles and a tie at 17-all midway through the opening period. Bloomsburg led by as many as 14 points in the opening half, 35-21, after Todd Schweitzer's three-pointer with 1:55 to play. Lock Haven, however, rallied with a 7-0 run to end the half leaving the Huskies with a seven-point edge, 35-28.
The Bald Eagles (0-7) started the second half with an 11- 1 run to take the lead, 39-36, with 15:15 to play in the game after James Chappell scored on a layup. The Huskies though rallied behind Matt Jefferson and John Owens who had four points each to help the Huskies tie the game at 44-all.
Jefferson and Owens were part of an 11-0 run that helped Bloomsburg lead 51-44 with 10:51 to play. The Huskies then continued to build on their lead and pushed it to 17, 66-49, when Benson hit a jumper with 5:44 to play. From there the Huskies maintained a no less than a 17-point advantage and went on to the easy 20-point victory.
Along with Benson and Owens scoring 16 points each, Jefferson and Brian Holsey added 12 points each for the Huskies. Benson also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and added five assists.
Lock Haven was led in scoring by Julien Grandgirard with 12 points, while Joe Walker and Christopher Ruff added 10 points each.
Bloomsburg will be idle till playing at Slippery Rock on Dec. 17th.
