Bloomsburg Tops Shippensburg in Men's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG —Bloomsburg University placed four players in double figures and defeated Shippensburg, 68-62, in overtime, Sunday afternoon in men's college basketball action.
Bloomsburg squandered a 17-point second half lead and had to go to overtime to get the victory.
The Huskies started quickly in the game scoring the first 11 points behind seven from Ryan Nenstiel and four from Seth Scott. Shippensburg broke the run with a basket from Chuck Davis at the 15:53 mark of the opening half. After the Red Raiders trimmed the deficit to four on a three-pointer by Davis, the Huskies pushed the lead back to eight at 19-11 when Jason Benson drained a three-pointer with 8:51 to play in the half.
Later in the half, a bucket by Charlie Jones cut the Bloomsburg lead to two, 25-23, before the Huskies closed out the half with a 6-2 run to lead 31-25 at the break.
Bloomsburg led 35-31 in the second half when it went on a 15-2 run to open a 17-point edge at 50-33. Jason Benson scored five points and John Owens four in the rally for the Huskies. Following a timeout, the Red Raiders went on a 17-0 run to tie the game at 51-51 all with 4:33 to play. Nenstiel stopped the run with a pair of free throws for the Huskies with 3:33 to go in the game before Jones gave Shippensburg its first lead of the game, 54-53, on a three by Jones.
Bloomsburg tied the score at 56 with 2:25 to play when Seth Scott scored, was fouled, and converted the free throw. After Jones hit a jumper to give Shippensburg a 58-56 lead with 2:06 to play. In the next minute there were turnovers by both teams before Benson tied the score with a jumper with 49 seconds to play.
Shippensburg turned the ball over on its next possession, but the Huskies could not capitalize and turned the ball back over to the Red Raiders with 37 seconds to play. After both teams missed jumpers, the Huskies had the ball with less than 10 to play when Benson was fouled. However, the front end of Benson's one and one missed sending the game to overtime tied at 58.
In the overtime, Benson hit a layup and two free throws to give the Huskies a 62-58 lead with 4:06 to play. Later a Greg Wojdowski basket made it a 64-62 lead for Bloomsburg with 1:55 to play. Following a Bloomsburg turnover, the Red Raiders missed two chances to tie the score. Seth Scott then hit a jumper with 28 seconds to play with Justin Scott sealing the win with a pair of free throws with five seconds to play.
Benson led the Huskies, 4-7, in scoring with 16 points with Nenstiel getting 15. John Owens added 12 points with Seth Scott netting 11.
Shippensburg was led in scoring by Wojdowski with 16 points, while Davis finished with 15 and Charlie Jones 12.
Bloomsburg will host the District of Columbia Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
