Bloomsburg Falls to Slippery Rock in Men's Basketball

SLIPPERY ROCK —Slippery Rock University rallied from a six-point second half deficit to post a 76-68 win over Bloomsburg University in men's basketball action Wednesday night.
With the Huskies trailing by six at halftime, 28-22, Bloomsburg came out and went on a 9-0 run to take a 31-28 lead with 15:40 to play in the game. The Rock, now 2-6, rallied and put together an 11-2 run to go back up on top, 39-33 with 12:37 left in the game.
But the Huskies then went on a 12-0 run to take their biggest lead of the game, 45-39, with 10:15 to play. Seth Scott (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) started the rally with a pair of free throws, followed by a three-pointer from John Owens (Philadelphia/Abington Friends). A layup from Matt Jefferson (Philadelphia/Engineering and Science) gave Bloomsburg a 41-39 lead before Jason Benson (Pittsburgh/Schenley) buried a three-pointer to make it a 43-39 lead. Owens closed out the run with a layup leaving the Huskies with the six-point advantage.
The Rock, though, switched to a full court press and went on a 17-3 run over the next four minutes to grab a 56-48 lead.
After the Rock went up by 10, 62-52, the Huskies got a three-point play from Jefferson and a pair of free throws from Benson to make it a 62-57 game with 3:03 to play. That would be as close as the Huskies would get the remainder of the game.
Slippery Rock, which snapped a six-game losing streak with the win, was led in scoring by Jermone Small, Jason Taylor and Glenn Reepmeyer with 12 points each, while Jajuan Davis added 11 points.
Bloomsburg, now 3-5, got 22 points from Benson, while Owens added 10 points.
The Huskies stay on the road to face California (PA) Thursday at 8 p.m.
