Bloomsburg Falls to Clarion in Men's Basketball

CLARION —Clarion University opened a big halftime lead and then hung on for a 77-60 win over Bloomsburg University in men's basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to an 21-6 lead behind six points from Ryan Wells and five from Terrance Vaughns. Clarion extended the margin to 24 at halftime 42-18 with Vaughns leading the way with 14 points.

In the second half, the Huskies came out strong and closed to within 48-37 with 12:42 left in the game. Leading the comeback was Bob Nenstiel (Nuremburg/Weatherly) with eight points, while Buddy Rose (Philadelphia/Mastbaum Tech) chipped in with six. In all, the Huskies outscored the Golden Eagles, 19-6, to start the second half.

However, that would be as close as the Huskies would get. Vaughns hit back to back three's for Clarion sandwiched between a layup from Bloomsburg's John Owens (Philadelphia/Abington Friends) to push the lead back to 15, 54-39, with 10:44 left. Vuaghn's third three-pointer in a 90-second span gave the home team a 17-point lead and an insurmountable lead.

Vaughns led the way for Clarion (5-2) with 26 points, while Michael Clarke added 17 and Ryan Wells 13.

Bloomsburg (2-6) was led by Bob Nenstiel with 16 points, while Andrew Jerry added 11 points.

The Huskies next action will be December 11th at Pitt-Johnstown.
