Bloomsburg Loses to IUP in Gannon Tournament

ERIE —The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team dropped the opening game of the Gary Miller Classic at Gannon University on Friday losing to Indiana (PA), 98-65. The Huskies, 1-4, will face Robert Wesleyan or Gannon on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the consolation game.

Bloomsburg held early leads of 2-0 and 4-2 in the game before the Indians came back and went up 6-4. The Huskies tied the game at 6-6 on a layup by Buddy Rose (Philadelphia/Mastbuam) with 16:32 left in the half, then later tied the game for the fourth time at 13-all on a layup by John Owens (Philadelphia/Abington Friends).

The Indians, 4-1, then took control of the game and went on a 18-5 run to lead 31-18 with 10:07 to go. Mike Mangel keyed the run with 10 points for IUP.

However, the Huskies came back and got to within five, 33-28, on a pair of free throws by Jaren Burdine (Reading/Reading) with 6:02 left in the half. From there on, though, it was all IUP.

The Indians closed out the half with a 21-2 run to open a 54-30 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Indians led by as many as 43 points (80-37) on a dunk by Ali Ayyub with 13:07 to play in the game before settling for the 33 point win.

Ayyub led the Indians with 23 points, while GJ Macon scored 18 and Mangel finished with 12.

Bloomsburg was led by 12 points from Buddy Rose.
