Bloomsburg Falls to Mercyhurst Tuesday Night

BLOOMSBURG—Freshman Terry Smith scored a game-high 30 points to lead Mercyhurst to a 91-64 win over Bloomsburg University in men's basketball action Tuesday night.
After the Huskies jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on a basket by John Owens (Philadelphia/Abington Friends) and two free throws from Bob Nenstiel (Nuremburg/Weatherly), the Lakers went on a 27-4 run over the next seven minutes to lead 27-8. Smith scored seven points for the Lakers in the run.
Bloomsburg put together a rally and closed the gap to 29-21 with 6:06 left in the first on a three pointer by Buddy Rose (Philadelphia/Mastbaum). That would be as close as the Huskies would get though.
Mercyhurst closed out the first half with a 18-12 run to lead by 14 at the break, 47-33.
In the second half, the Huskies never got closer than 14 points, while the Lakers led by as many as 31 points late in the game.
Along with Smith's 30 points, Mercyhurst (3-1) got 16 points from Jawad Ali, 12 from Mitch Brennan and 10 from Kyle Jeffrey.
Bloomsburg (1-3) was led in scoring by Owens with 15 points, while Bob Nenstiel added 13 points and Ryan Nenstiel (Nuremburg/Weatherly)10.
The Huskies are back in action on Friday at the Gannon Tournament taking on PSAC-west rival IUP at 6 p.m.
