Bloomsburg Falls In Men's Basketball
Game stats
SHIPPENSBURG --The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team lost to Shippensburg on Sunday by a score of 78-63.
After falling behind 8-2 in the early going, the Huskies tied the game at 8-8 on a layup by Buddy Rose (Philadelphia/Mastbaum) with 14 minutes left in the first half. The Red Raiders, though, took the lead for good on a jumper from Gary Vaincouer and slowly extended that margin to double digits over the next 10 minutes of play. Shippensburg took its biggest lead of the half, 12 points, on a tip-in by Seth Scott with 4:14 to play in the period. The Huskies, though, did get the deficit back to nine points at the break, 36-27.
In the second half, trailing 41-31, the Huskies saw Shippensburg go on a 13-0 run to put the game out of reach. Todd Johnson scored five points for Shippensburg in the run.
Bloomsburg did battle back and get to within 11 points with 41 seconds to play on a layup from Andrew Jerry (Philadelphia/Olney), but that would be as close as the Huskies would get.
The Huskies, 3-10, were led by John Owens (Philadelphia/Abington Friends) with 16 points, while Andrew Jerry added 13 and Billy Bryan (Denver/Holy Name) 13.
Shippensburg, 8-5, got 18 points from Ryan Kraft, 14 from Seth Scott and 12 from Johnson.
The Huskies open PSAC East Division play on Wednesday hosting East Stroudsburg at 7:30 p.m.
